iPhone Finally Coming to Canada in Late 2008

After reading all about the iPhone for the past couple years, and seeing and playing around with friends’ cracked versions of the iPhone, there’s finally been an announcement that the iPhone is coming to Canada!

I just read this on Forbes.com and I’m pretty pumped about it. Finally, the iPhone is coming to Canada. Not that it wouldn’t happen eventually, but now that Rogers has made the announcement, we know it will be some time later this year.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” said president Ted Rogers in a statement. “We can’t tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.”

Time to drop Telus and switch over to Rogers. More news on the announcement is here, here, and here.

My big concern is how much it is going to cost – not the actual phone itself, but the data plans with them. Because of the cost of data plans in Canada it almost seems scary to get an iPhone, but I’m assuming there will be some sort of new plan specifically for the iPhone to deal with the cost of data.

    That’s great News !

The question is still….. when ?

  2. iPhone Canada News Says:

Yeah - but when ? July, September, December ?

  3. Jarrod Goddard Says:

My estimate is probably around the fall - October at the latest. They probably just finalized a deal and wanted to announce it to the public now they can work out the minor details. But it’s got to be well in time for Christmas.

They’re saying that they will probably either create an iPhone specific plan that will include web, email, and phone, or they will create one just like that for all of Rogers’ phones. One of the problems with the release was the price of the internet plans (Apple wanted people to be able to use the full features of the device w/o paying too much), so i’m hoping there will be a resonable plan. Needless to say i’m totally phsyched!

I agree, it will probably be an iPhone specific plan that way they can keep their current users who are paying a ton for data, and still appease the iPhone users.

I already have one from the states unlocked. But this new one is supposed to be edge capable and what not. I can’t see the data plans on these puppies being very cheap guys. Its a stellar phone but once its available the shock value of having one will drop drastically and the new touch screen phones from LG I think will be the new “it” phone.

Now how does this affect Fido subscribers? I know many Fido users who have iPhones right now and are loving them….

i wont get out my credit card just yet…later this year seems pretty vague…and there has to be a major price point overhaul in the entire industry if customers are going to be able to get the most out of their iphones. Forgetting the fact that we Canadians pay more for mobile phones and data then anyone else, we are the only consumers who are forced to deal with data caps…in the states and overseas unlimited means unlimited. here unlimited data means a cap of i think 5gb a month…with an iphone that limit can be easily destroyed in a few days…the only positive thing i take out of this article is the possibility that rogers will lower their insane price points…if they don’t this announcement is a joke and you’ll see very few people using the iphone to its full potential.

Well i just went to the rogers site where they have an ad posted with the siloette of the Iphone and the text saying, “Something big is coming to Rogers July 11th 2008.
So i think that pretty much spells it out.
