How To Buy From American Online Stores And Save Money!

The effect of the rising Canadian dollar is having a significant impact on online shopping for Canadians. Because of the huge change in the currency, I’ve found that it makes more sense to order online from American stores and save lots of money.

lost 3Lost Season 3 came out this week for purchase. I pre-ordered it back in October, and I got it from Amazon.com for $38.99, while Amazon.ca now has it listed as $52.99, it was $61.99 when I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com. At the point when I placed my pre-order, the Canadian dollar was actually worth more than the US dollar. So that means I got it for less than $38.99 when I would have had to pay $61.99 from the Canadian store! That’s a savings of $26!

Other Price Differences

seinfeldSeinfeld - The Complete Series is going for $205.99 at Amazon.com, while Amazon.ca has it listed for $239.99 a savings of over $30!

guitar heroI thought I’d look at the big sellers at Amazon.com and compare those to the Candian store. Looking at the video games section and the pricing for Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, I saw that amazon.com is selling it for $79.99 while amazon.ca lists it for $89.99.

Save Big This Holiday Season

This post is probably a little too late for this Christmas, but if you’re looking for something that doesn’t have to be here in time for the 25th, order now, and start saving. Sure, some may argue that as Canadians we should be buying our products from our own stores and supporting our own economy, but the problem is that Canadians have been paying much higher prices for our products for a long time now, and since our dollar is now at par with the US dollar, I think we should be paying the same prices as our neighbours to the south. Soon enough, the Canadian retailers will have to adjust their pricing and I’ll be happy to buy from Canadian sites like Chapters.ca and Amazon.ca, but when I’m saving $20-30 per purchase, that’s a big deal, and I’ll be buying online from American stores until it gets a little less rediculous.
